Lay Employees Retirement Plan. Booklets outlining the plan have been mailed to each teacher.
Life Insurance
Group Life insurance is provided for each lay teacher in the amount of $50,000.
The cost is borne by the System. There is a voluntary Life Insurance component
which teachers can opt to pay for up to $100,000 of additional benefits.
Disability Insurance
The Salary Continuance Plan (Long Term Disability Plan) pays a month benefit
of 60% of gross salary. The plan is designed to replace income lost during a
period of total disability due to covered injury, sickness or pregnancy. One-half
of the cost of this plan is borne by the System. The teacher bears the remainder
of the cost of the plan.
Dental Program
All full-time permanent lay teachers and their dependents are eligible for
coverage under the Association Health and Welfare Fund's Dental Plan through
Blue Shield. The plan pays the usual, customary and reasonable charges for dental
services up to a maximum of $1,000 per person per year. The plan includes major
services such as root canal. Periodontics are covered at 50% of UCR. Dentures,
caps and crowns, and orthodontia are not covered under the plan. Specific coverages
and exclusions are listed in the plan booklet. The booklet is available by contacting
